Argentina win Copa America!
Argentina, which also means Leo Messi and Sergio Agüero have beaten Emerson’s Brazil 1-0 win the Copa America 2021. Angel Di María’s first half goal eventually secured a famous victory.
New title together
After winning the U20 World Cup in 2005 and the Olympic Games in 2008, the duo have now won their first senior international title together.
It’s the country’s fifteenth win in total, and means they match Uruguay are the winner of the most South American titles. And it ends of run going all the way back to 1993 in which Argentina have failed to win the continental championship.

Intense final
A tight game with no clear dominator and plenty of fouls eventually saw the deadlock broken by Di María after 22 minutes, and despite in intense reaction from the home side after the break, Brazil just could not get a goal back. Argentina defended brilliantly, and Emiliano Martínez was exceptional in goal.
Messi played all 90 minutes, but Agüero was not used. As for Brazil, Emerson came on for Renan Lodi after 76 minutes.
MVP, top scorer and top assister
Leo Messi also collected the tournament MVP award, while also finishing top both for goals (4) and assists (5). A simply impeccable performance that furthers the legend of a player who now has a major international title to add to his host of honours won at FC Barcelona.
