Jordi Alba and Pedri feature in draw with Sweden

Plenty of chances for Luis Enrique's side in Seville, but their opening game of Euro 2020 ends scoreless

Spain, with Jordi Alba and Pedri playing the full ninety minutes, have drawn 0-0 with Sweden in their opening fixture of Euro 2020 in a game in which they will feel they deserved a lot more.

No goals

Dani Olmo with an early header, Koke with a strike that fizzed wide of the post, and Morata when he pounced on a defensive error, all had fabulous chances to score in the first half.

The second half brought more of the same, with chance after chance, and Gerard Moreno and Oyarzabal also made a huge impact after they came on.

But the game was by means one-way traffic, and Sweden also had some big chances that failed to end in the net.

Eric Garcia was an unused substitute in a game that saw Pedri become the youngest player ever to appear for Spain in the European Championship.

Slovakia, who beat Poland 2-1 earlier in the day, top the group after the opening round of fixtures. Luis Enrique’s side next face Poland on Saturday at 9.00pm CEST.
