Barça 36–23 Aalborg: European champions!
Barça played a great game from start to finish at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne in front of about a thousand spectators, and had a new title at the end of an absolutely impeccable season: 6/6 titles and 61/61 victories.
From less to more
Despite an unfavourable start for the Catalans, with initial dominance from the Danes (2-5), a spectacular Barça partial of 7-0 turned the game around. Success in attack, added to a great defence saw Xavi Pascual's side edge ahead (9-5).
Aalborg tried to react by breaking a negative streak of only one goal in 12 minutes, but Barça continued to dominate on the court and were 16-11 ahead by the break.
No let up
Pérez de Vargas was superb in the Barça goal and also scored three goals himself to increase the deficit, which quickly became insurmountable for the Danes.
There was no let up and, in the end, Barça were convincing victors by 36-23.
A 10th Champions League for the handball section was the sixth title of the season. A dream ending for Xavi Pascual's time as Barça coach, as well as captains Entrerríos and Sorhaindo, among others.
