The tenth Champions League is ours!

Barça Handball reign in Europe again, six years after the last title, following the victory this Sunday against Aalborg Haandbold (36-23). Xavi Pascual's team secured the section's 10th Champions League and also became the first team to lift the golden net, the new trophy for the European champions from this season, as a replacement for the bronze arm.

The EHF Final4 was decided at Lanxess Arena with just over a thousand fans present, though the usual atmosphere had to be replaced by a virtual show for television production purposes.

The third of the 'Pasqui' era

It is the section's 10th Champions League, after those achieved in 1991, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2005, 2011 and 2015, and it the third achieved with Xavi Pascual as coach. He has led a talented team who always gave maximum effort and, after 12 years with 61 titles to his name, he departs with his head held high.

With this 10th title, Barça extend its dominance in the competition. Behind them are Gummersbach, with five, THW Kiel, with four, and Ciudad Real, Dukla Praga, Magdeburg and SKA Minsk, all with three.

The title concludes a season with an emotional ending, since it marks the conclusion of a cycle and the goodbye of several players, in addition to David Barrufet, Xavi Pascual and Fernando Barbeito. 

It is the third Champions League for players Raúl Entrerríos and Cédric Sorhaindo, who will also say goodbye, as well as the third for Gonzalo Pérez de Vargas, Aitor Ariño and Aron Pálmarsson (he won two with Kiel). It is the second for Cindric (the other with Vardar) and Fàbregas (the first, with Montpellier).

13 first-time winners

The generational change that Barça has experienced in recent seasons is evident in the fact that this Champions League is the first for 13 Barcelona players: Aleix Gómez, Dika Mem, Timothey N'Guessan, Juro Dolenec, Kevin Möller, Thiagus Petrus, Casper Mortensen, Alex Pascual, Mamadou Diocou, Blaz Janco, Luis Frade, Domen Makuc and Haniel Langaro.
