Women's football team win Barça's 18th treble
FC Barcelona won the Spanish cup final on Sunday, thus completing the club’s first ever treble of UEFA Women’s Champions League, Liga Femenina and Copa de la Reina. And it also means that Barça has become the first ever club to have achieved such a treble in both men’s (2008/09 and 2014/15) and women’s (2020/21) football.
Trebles in every sport
Incredibly, after the Women’s Champions League victory in Gothenburg secured the club’s 42nd continental title in different professional sports, Sunday’s defeat of Levante has completed an astonishing 18 trebles in the sports of football, basketball, handball, rink hockey and futsal.
And the handball team could yet add another one this year if all goes well in Santander and Cologne.
Since the rink hockey team first achieved the feat in 1977/78, all of the different pro sports have managed at least one European and domestic treble. It is not for nothing that FC Barcelona is so often regarded as the greatest multi-sports club in the world:
• Men’s football: 2008/9 & 2014/15
• Women’s football: 2020/21
• Basketball: 2002/03
• Handball: 1996/97, 1997/98, 1999/00 & 2014/15
• Rink hockey: 1977/78, 1978/79, 1980/81, 1984/85, 1999/00, 2001/02, 2004/05, 2006/07 & 2017/18
• Futsal: 2011/12
