Barça join the Amazing Barcelona digital tourism project for the city

The Barcelona Tourist Board lead this initiative which will create a central database to make decisions easier to make for the Barcelona tourist industry

On Tuesday an even took place at Camp Nou to certify the assocation what will be the new Tourist Data Hub for the city of Barcelona, Amazing Barcelona, a new private-public platform that will manage information, products and digital tourist services for Barcelona and Catalonia as a whole. FC Barcelona, as a key player in the sector, have confirmed their involvement in the new tourist platform that will allow the data from visitors to be put to good use. 

The president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, took part in the presentation at which also present was the president of the Barcelona Tourist Board, Eduard Torres, the Minister for Finance and Business in the Catalan Generalitat, Ramon Tremosa, the first assistant to the Mayor's office at Barcelona City Council, Jaume Collboni, the president of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, Mònica Roca, the president of Vueling, Marco Sansavini, the director general of Telefónica, Chemas Casa and the director general of the Barcelona Tourist Board, Marian Muro. 

Amazing Barcelona will be the centre for managing the tourist experience in the city through a team who will work with data from various sources using hi-tech methods. The initiative is an attempt to regenerate the sector which has been hit hard by the Covid 19 crisis, making it more sustainable and making it easier for decisions to be made by the city's tourist industry to help boost the quality of the tourist experience in the city. 

Tuesday's event saw the signing of a protocol which encompasses the project's business plan which will be carried out by the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce and Tourist Board, looking at its potential and necessary funding. The Amazing Barcelona project is eligible for the assignment of European Recovery Plan Funds, Next Generation, as part of the Generalitat of Catalonia's plan for economic recovery and intelligent tourism. 

The president Joan Laporta offered the Club's support for Amazing Barcelona, adding that FC Barcelona is "very proud to be able to help the city promote itself and help in whatever way possible in its projects." The Barça president reminded everyone of the important role of "ambassador" that Barça has "in both the city and the country." He continued: "We are talking about the Club, the players, the fans and members and the success we have achieved, that unique style that we have and also our values, all of which helps to promote the city of Barcelona and Catalonia the country."

Barça Women are "the pride of the Club" 

Joan Laporta believes that Barça "have generated a brand worth along many generations", citing the recent example of Barça Women's success as a positive for the city. "We have won the Champions League and it is a success that is linked to the Club and to Barcelona and the country. It was marvellous also in the way that we won it, respecting our undeniable style which goes not just for the men's team but the women's also. It was a great source of pleasure and pride and we are all proud of this success." 

The Barça president also highlighted the importance of Barça beyond its role as a sporting and social institution. "We are also a driver of the city's economy, generating wealth. We know the figures that the Club generated before the pandemic that has changed our lives, financial activity worth 1,200 million euros, representing almost 1.5% of the city's GDP, an important contribution and something we are proud of." .
