Levante v Barça: Did you know?
The end of the league season is approaching and the game at Levante could be decisive in the race for the title. We review the five key facts to know before the game on Tuesday at the Ciutat de Valencia Stadium.
1. One win in the last four visits
Although it was exactly 10 years ago that Barça won a league title at Levante, the truth is that the most recent precedents are not favourable for the visitors. They lost 3-1 in the last league game there and 2-1 in their penultimate visit, a Copa del Rey tie. A 5-0 win for Barça was sandwiched by the 5-4 defeat which meant an unbeaten season wasn't completed. Three defeats and one victory in the last four visits...
2. History favours Barça
Beyond these recent records, Barça have a good record against Levante. For example, in each of the 29 games played in the league, the blaugranes have always scored. Barça are also the team, along with Real Madrid, that have beaten Levante the most times in LaLiga (22).
3. The Messi factor
The Argentine star is usually decisive against Levante. Pichichi Messi has participated in at least one goal in each of the last 10 games against Levante in LaLiga.
4. Levante in bad shape?
Levante are not going through their best moment. They've lost six of their last eight games in the league and their previous streak of four losses in 22 games is a distant memory.
5. Provisional leadership
In the event of a win, Barça would top the table on a provisional basis, pending the results of Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid, who play on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. To be the leader once this round of matches is over, Barça need Atlético to lose and Los Blancos to either lose or draw.
