Impressive action to commerate International Women’s Day
The FC Barcelona women’s football team took to the field for Saturday's 3-0 victory away to Santa Teresa wearing a shirt with a special patch on the front of their shirts asking “What makes you different?” while the names on their backs were replaced by what each player feels to be her most outstanding personal attribute.
And in place of their normal shirt numbers, they each wore 8M (March 8) in reference to the date of International Women’s Day.
Each player had personally chosen the attribute they wore, which included such terms as FEELING, PASSION, PERFORMANCE, COURAGE, STRENGTH, COMMITMENT and VALUE. The side coached by Lluís Cortés also donned lilac armbands throughout the match in an action supported by team’s official partner, STANLEY, with which Barça works together to promote women’s sport.
In the evening, the men’s team will be wearing a similar design during the build-up to their game against Osasuna (9pm CET), including the “What makes you different?” patch and their names and numbers being replaced by a defining attribute and the date '8M'. The men's chosen attributes include the likes of OPTIMISM, EFFORT and RESPECT. They will also be wearing lilac armbands.
After Saturday’s matches, several of the special shirts worn by the men and women players will be auctioned off to raise funds for the Barça Foundation’s inclusion programs.
