Elche to guest at Gamper Trophy on September 19
FC Barcelona will be facing newly promoted Elche in the 55th edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy. The venue will be the Camp Nou next Saturday 19 September, kick off at 7.00pm CET in the latest test for a team that began the preseason by beating Gimnàstic Tarragona 3-1 on Saturday 12.
The game can be watched live, only and exclusively, around Spain and the rest of the world on Barça TV+, while it will also be available in Catalonia on Barça TV, via TDT, and on TV3; in delay (9.30pm CET) in the rest of Spain and on the club’s channel via subscriber services.
Elche, five years later
Managed by Argentinian Jorge Almirón. Elche are back in the top flight after a five-year absence, having beaten Girona (who Barça play in another preseason friendly this Wednesday 16, also at 7.00pm CET). Like Barça, Elche’s first two games of the league season have been postponed until December.
It’s the first time that a fellow LaLiga team has appeared at the traditional curtain raiser to Barça’s new season since Tenerife in 1993 and Valencia in 1994, although with no fans allowed into the stadium because of Covid-19 restrictions, this year’s Gamper is going to be unlike any other before.
