Girona friendly on September 16

A second preseason friendly has been announced and like this Saturday’s game with Gimnàstic Tarragona it is a Catalan derby at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, this time against Girona on Wednesday 16 September at 7.00pm CEST.

The game can be watched live on the new Barça TV+ streaming service, and also on Barça TV, via TDT in Catalonia and elsewhere in Spain on subscription channels.

Previous meetings

Girona came frustratingly close to returning to the first division this season, but got edged out by Elche in a playoff. But the side from the north of Catalonia were in the top flight in 2017/18 and 2018/19, with Barça winning three of the games between them (3-0, 6-1 and 2-0), and being held 2-2 in the other.

The only other time they have met was in a cup match in 1949, which Barça won 9-0. 

Liga begins on 27th

The game will be played four days after the new-look Barça under Ronald Koeman play their first game against Nàstic. The official programme begins on the weekend of September 26 and 27 at home to Villarreal.
