Barça to open LaLiga 2020/21 against Villarreal
Barça’s fixtures have been announced for the 2020/21 league season.
First game against Villarreal
The opening fixture will be on September 27 or 28 at home to Villarreal.
However, this game will be in the THIRD round of games. Barça, like the other teams that had European fixtures or promotion playoffs in August, will not be playing their first two sets of fixtures until Christmas.
It means that although La Liga gets going on September 12, Barça’s game against Elche will not be played until December.
Barça will be going to Vigo on September 29 or 30 to face Celta in their first away game of the campaign.
Final game at Eibar
Like last season, the competition is not being divided into symmetrical halves, meaning that game 1 will not be the reverse of game 19. The team Barça will have the longest wait to play is Real Sociedad at Camp Nou, but their very last game of the season will be at Eibar on May 23.
Clásico dates
The first game against Real Madrid will be in the week of October 25 at Camp Nou, while the return at the Santiago Bernabéu is on April 11. Those are weeks 7 and 30 of the competition.
For only the third time ever, there will be no Catalan derby in the first division. The only times this has happened before were 1962/62 and 1989/90.
Champions League draw on October 1
The Champions League will also be starting a little later than usual due to the date-switching caused this year as a result of the Covid-10 crisis. The first games in the group stage are being played on October 20, three weeks after the draw on October 1.
