Stat of the day | 6: Pedro scores in six competitions in 2009
In Abu Dhabi on 16 December 2009 a 22 year old footballer from Tenerife entered into history as the first player to score in all competitions in the same season. Pedro Rodríguez, the left winger from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, completed the set with a strike that sent FC Barcelona into the final of the FIFA World Club Cup. a competition they would go on to win.
The man from the Canary Islands made his debut in January 2008 against Murcia under coach Frank Rijkaard. However, it was under the next Barça boss, Pep Guardiola, that Pedro really established himself in the team. The winger's record breaking run in 2009/10 began in August at San Mamés in the Spanish Super Cup, scoring against Athletic Club. Just over a week later in Monaco Pedro scored the winner in extra time against Ukrainian side Shaktar Donetsk helping the team claim the fifth of the six they would win in the calendar year. Later in the year he found the net in the Champions League against Dynamo Kyiv, Almería in La Liga and Cultural Leonesa in the Copa del Rey.
Last step, the FIFA Club World Cup
In Abu Dhabi Pedro helped crown a dream year for both himself and the team. A goal against Mexican club Atalante in the semi-final helped the blaugranes into the final against Estudiantes de la Plata. In that game Pedro once again scored a vital goal, taking the final against the Argentines into extra time with his late equaliser. Leo Messi's winner handed Barça a sixth trophy in 2009 and Pedro Rodríguez ended the year having scored in every competition - an achievement that has written his name large in FC Barcelona history.
