La Liga back from June 8

With the backing of the Higher Council for Sport, the Spanish Government and the Ministry of Health issue green light for competition to resume

This Saturday at midday, Spanish president Pedro Sánchez announced that the government is authorising the resumption to La Liga in the week of June 8. He said that "the time has come to recover some of the everyday activities that we had to suspend as a consequence of lockdown” and added that the top division of the national football league was to be one of those.

"I want to announce that with the backing of the Higher Council for Sport, the Spanish Government and the Ministry of Health have given the green light for La Liga to restart. The competition will start again in the week of June 8 along with our major sports tournaments. But although the ball will start rolling again, it’ll be doing so under health conditions that guarantee the safety of everyone involved,”

Following the announcement, LaLiga used its Twitter account to also confirm that professional football will be back from June 8 onwards.

La Liga will be starting at Week 28 of the 2019/20 season, with 11 games left for each team to play. Barça's first game, on a time and date to be decided, will be away to Mallorca.
