Stat of the day | 41: Copa del Rey finals for Barça
Barça are the King of Cups, of that there is no doubt. In the Copa del Rey nobody has reached the final on more occasions and nobody has come out winners on more occasions. The blaugranes have won 30 of the 41 finals they have contested in the competition's long and distinguished history. 13 May marks 11 years since Barça's win in the final in 2009 against Athletic Club, the first piece in the famous treble jigsaw of Copa del Rey, La Liga and the Champions League achieved in that memorable 2008/09 season. We mark the occasion by taking a brief look back at the blaugranes' history in Spain's premier cup competition.
1910 to 2019
More than century has passed between Barça's first appearance in the final and their most recent. In May 1910 FC Barcelona won their first of 30 Copa del Rey titles with a 3-2 win over Espanyol de Madrid in the final. Their most recent outing in the Copa del Rey final came last season when they went down to a 2-1 defeat in the Benito Villamarín stadium against Valencia.
Messi and Sergio Busquets, most finals
The two Barça captains Leo Messi and Sergio Busquets have appeared in 9 finals together between 2009 and 2019; behind them in the list are Gerard Piqué (8), Iniesta (7) and Alcántara, Samitier, Segarra and Javier Mascherano (6). Furthermore, Messi has scored in six of those nine finals.
Six finals in a row
FC Barcelona appeared in no less than six consecutive finals between 2014 and 2019, winning four of them in the process. Their most recent win in the competition came in 2018 with a 5-0 win over Sevilla in the final, Andrés Iniesta's final game as a blaugrana.
Winning quintet
Leo Messi, Andrés Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, Gerard Piqué and Joan Segarra lead the way in terms of winners medals' with each of them having been part of the winning side on six occasions.
