Barça Rewind: A festival for the poor

FC Barcelona organised a children's festival on April 24, 1924, dedicated to the children of the poorer schools in the city, to include hospice inmates and young patients at the Sant Joan de Déu hospital. 

About 15,000 children filled more than two thirds of the Les Corts stadium thanks to this laudable initiative of the board of directors headed by Enric Cardona.

The kids had a great time. They first witnessed an athletics exhibition and then, as the main part of the day, a match between two Barça teams, including Sancho, Piera, Sagi, Alcántara ... All except Samitier, who was ill. 

Generosity

The finale saw twenty-two huge balloons with the faces of each of the participating players on, lifted into the air, but the wind was so strong that the balloons immediately fell to the floor and popped. 

The festival was still a success, however. The club had provided the attendees with snack bags containing a sandwich, a packet of cookies and an orange. Barça also gave a pair of pitchers decorated in Barça colours to each school, as a reminder of the day. 

In short, the event was an example of generosity and altruism on the part of FC Barcelona.
