Luis Suárez: 'Derbies are always difficult'

In an interview with the SPORT newspaper, Barça's No.9 says that you have to 'be careful' with an Espanyol side who come into the match 'in a delicate situation'

Luis Suárez is close to making (more) history with Barça. The Uruguayan striker is only four goals away from matching Ladislao Kubala as the third highest scorer in the history of the club, a figure that he can reach in the next few matches, beginning with Espanyol and Atlético Madrid. In an interview with the SPORT newspaper, the No.9 takes stock of his achievements and also assesses the difficulty of these upcoming commitments.

The match with Espanyol

"The derbies are always difficult. You have to be very careful. Espanyol are in a delicate situation and with the level of players that they have, they don't deserve to be where they are now."

"It's a beautiful game and we all like to play it."

The Spanish Super Cup

"It's a great motivation for us. Now we are enjoying a few days off after an overload of games, but we want to fight for this trophy."

"We're looking forward to winning the first title at stake and all we have ahead of us."

Kubala's 194 goals, in the spotlight

"Equalling it is a great challenge. I have always said that personal challenges should be set aside but in this case, when there is so little to draw level with a historic player like Kubala, you have to feel very proud."

"The second position [César scored 232 goals with Barça] is obviously a more difficult challenge, but that doesn't mean that it isn't also achievable. The first [Messi, with 618 goals] is unattainable, but I am excited to try and reach César's numbers."

Possible renewal

"I am very happy at the club. I have always done my best. The statistics and figures support me."

"I think I'm up to it and when it comes to the right time, we will have that conversation."
