Sextuple winning sides to receive tribute at Camp Nou
On December 19, FC Barcelona celebrated 10 years since their sextuple-winning season, an amazing achievement that saw them victorious in every competition in which they participated in 2009. The team, coached by Pep Guardiola and Tito Vilanova, defined one of the most brilliant eras in the 120 year history of the club.
To mark the anniversary, representatives from the teams who took part in the sextuple will be present this Saturday at the Camp Nou, to share memories of the unmatched campaign with members and fans.
Before the match against Alavés, which kicks off at 4pm CET, members of the 2008/09 and 2009/10 teams, headed by captain Carles Puyol, will receive an ovation from the fans at the Camp Nou and pose for photos with the six trophies: The LaLiga title, the Copa del Rey, the Champions League, the Spanish Supercopa and the Club World Cup.
December 19, 2009, was the date on which Barça beat Estudiantes de la Plata in the Club World Cup final in Abu Dhabl, through goals from Pedro and Leo Messi.
The club have invited all members of the squads from those two seasons, as well as the coaching staff. Besides Carles Puyol, confirmed attendees are Gaby Milito, Seydou Keita, José Manuel Pinto, Éric Abidal, Xavi Torres and the players who remain at the club in 2019/20: Leo Messi, Sergio Busquets and Gerard Piqué. Representing the coaching staff will be Aureli Altimira, whilst representatives from the board from the time will be welcomed by president Josep Maria Bartomeu.
