10 things you need to know about Moussa Wague
Tough beginnings. Wague started playing football barefoot in the street, something that allowed him to "perfect his technique and toughen up his feet." All this before joining first Aspire Academy and then Belgian side KAS Eupen.
-From Barça B to the first team. Wague spent last season with the B squad although he did make three appearances for the first team against Huesca, Celta and Eibar.
-20th and first. Wague is the 20th African to play for FC Barcelona but is the very first from Senegal.
-Sixteen. The right back wears the number 16 and is the eleventh to do, following in the footsteps of such names as Xavi Hernández and Sergio Busquets.
-Eto'o, Touré Yaya and Keita. The three former Barça player are favourites of the Senegalese defender. The Africans who all made their mark at the Club and won the affection of the Barça fans.
-Dani Alves. The Brazilian right back and former Barça player is a role model for the Wague in defence.
-Home town of Bignona. Wague's close family live in Senegal but they never miss a Barça game or a match involving the national side, especially if Moussa is playing. He is contact almost daily with his family and their support and that of his home country is vital for the defender.
-Young goalscorer. Wague is the youngest ever African goalscorer in the World Cup after his goal against Japan in Russia 2018 at the age of just 19 years and 263 days.
-The national side, a family. For Wague, playing for the national team is a pleasure as the majority of players have come through the youth teams together. Furthermore, they share a common routine before games - eating 'thieboudienne' - a Senegalese dish based on rice and fish, then dancing to relax before preying together.
-African Nations Cup runners-up. The Barça right back came close to claiming the title with Senegal only to be defeated in the final by the only goal of the game against Algeria.
