La Masia: The essence of FC Barcelona
La Masia is the essence of Barça. Inaugurated on October 20, 1979, the residence celebrated its 40th anniversary a few days ago. One of the cornerstones of the Més que un club philosophy that defines the club's sporting, human and academic model, La Masia's impact is explained in an audiovisual piece by Head of Methodology Paco Seirul·lo, first team captain Lionel Messi and former residents Sergi Roberto and Carles Aleñá, amongst others.
For them, La Masia has provided an education in sport and in life through a unique philosopy, which is reflected both on and off the pitches and multisports centres where the FC Barcelona youth sports teams train. Some 641 athletes and their families, coaches, tutors and educational staff benefit from the long-running project.
The club have prepared a series of video documentaries -to be released over the course of the season- based around the five values promoted at La Masia: Humility, Effort, Ambition, Respect and Teamwork.
Youth teams presentation on Wednesday
Commemorative shirts were worn this past weekend by all FC Barcelona players -both on the first team and at youth level- in the first in a series of visible initiatives that will take place over the course of the campaign.
The youth football teams will be presented officially on Wednesday at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, whilst on Monday of last week the youth futsal teams were unveiled. The remainder of the youth teams in their various areas will be presented over the coming days.
