Marta Plana gives conference in Athens organised by 'The Economist'
BIHUB director Marta Plana gave a conference in Athens as part of a series of talks organised by The Economist, explaining the Barça Innovation Hub project to an audience of over 300 people.
Plana shared a panel with AC Milan president, Paolo Scaroni; Greek Superleague president and AEK Athens vicepresident/CEO, Myna Lisandrou; Benfica CEO, Domingos Soares; Burnley FC director Brendan Flood; and MLS competition and player relations vicepresident Dimitrios Efstathiou.
The panel discussion, under the title "The Business Of Sport Viewed From The Boardroom: Football", aimed to give in-depth details of how sports clubs face the immediate future, with the aim of finding new sources of business through sport and commercial/sponsorship strategies.
The FC Barcelona director spoke about the different projects undertaken by the BIHUB and explained to those in attendance why the club decided to begin the BIHUB scheme two years ago. Plana detailed the scientific investigation programmes, innovation projects with startups, Masters and Postgraduate courses for sports professionals, and the organisation of conferences and congresses linked to sport.
Also present were the vice-minister of culture and sport for Greece, Lefteris Avgenakis; Greek Olympic Committee president, Spyros Capralos; and Dallas Mavericks president and director general, Donnie Nelson.
