Moussa Wagué, with the first team
Moussa Wagué is a new player for FC Barcelona's first team. After the signings of Frenkie de Jong, Neto and Griezmann, the Senegalese right-back becomes the fourth new face for Ernesto Valverde, for the 2019/20 season. Wagué played last season for Barça B, and also made three first team appearances against Huesca, Celta and Eibar.
Wagué, who finished as a runner-up in the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal, explained a few weeks ago - in a letter written in the first person and published on the club's website - his feelings after his first year at Barça.
His number will be 16, and he will be the eleventh player to wear it since 1995, the first year in which the league assigned fixed numbers to the players.
Other No. 16's
The first to wear it was Oscar García (1995-97), followed by Dragan Ciric (1997-99) and Xavi Hernández (2000-01), who wore it for a year before switching to his historic number six. Then came the turn of Mario (2003/04) and Sylvinho for five seasons (2004-09). Subsequently, Sergio Busquets took it for five more campaigns (2009-2014), and, since then, Douglas (2014/15), Sandro (2015/16), Sergi Samper (2016/17 and 2018/19) and Gerard Deulofeu (2017-18) have used the number.
Now it will be Moussa Wagué's turn, and he could debut at the Camp Nou next Sunday against Arsenal in the Joan Gamper Trophy.
