FC Barcelona launches 'Gallina de piel' range in honour of Johan Cruyff
FC Barcelona has launched a new collection of exclusive clothes and accessories called Gallina de piel in honour of the late, great Johan Cruyff. The different products can only be purchased in the Barça Store at the Camp Nou, and go on sale in a special space on the first floor from August 1.
The collection is named after one of the iconic expressions associated with the legendary footballer and manager. ‘Piel de gallina’ (literally ‘chicken skin’) is the Spanish equivalent of ‘goose bumps’, but the Dutchman, who often made rather comical linguistic errors, once famously got his words mixed up and said ‘gallina de piel’ (nonsensically meaning ‘skin chicken’).
One of the articles on sale is an exact replica of the away shirt used by Barça in the late-1970s, in yellow with a 'blaugrana' diagonal stripe, with the number 9 on the back made of 100% cotton and featuring the club crest as used at the time along with other famous Cruyff-isms such as “Salid y disfrutad” (Go out and enjoy yourselves). There are also navy blue polos with Cruyff’s image silhouetted in an iconic pose. The collection also includes a cap with the same image, a wallet and a vintage football that also features famous Cruyff sayings like “you play football with your head and the legs are just there to help.”
Coming up very soon on August 27 at 7.00pm CEST is the inauguration of the new Johan Cruyff Stadium, including plenty of activities in and around the new ground. The main attraction will be a friendly between the FC Barcelona and Ajax Amsterdam youth teams at 9.00pm CEST. The day before, on August 26, a statue of Johan Cruyff is to be unveiled on the Camp Nou forecourt.
