Luis Suárez named in Uruguay squad for Copa América

The striker will represent his country in the summer tournament

Luis Suárez has been included in the Uruguay squad for the 2019 Copa América, which takes place from 14 June until 7 July this summer in Brazil.

This will be the striker's third appearance in the competition. He was part of the winning team in 2011, as well as participating in the 2016 tournament in which Uruguay were eliminated in the opening round. He would miss the 2015 edition through a FIFA suspension.

Suárez is the lastest FC Barcelona player confirmed for this summer's competition, after previous announcements of Philippe Coutinho and Arthur (Brazil), Lionel Messi (Argentina) and Arturo Vidal (Chile).

Recovering from surgery

Earlier in May, Suárez underwent arthroscopic knee surgery to treat an internal right meniscus issue, for which he was forecast an approximate recovery time of between 4-6 weeks, according to the club's medical team.

He scored a total of 25 goals from 49 games this past season, and was Barça's second top goalscorer in 2018/19 behind only Messi. On 23 April he passed Ladislau Kubala's tally of 131 LaLiga goals, becoming the club's third best all-time marksman in the league.
