Piqué immense on his return to Old Trafford

It was a performance of the highest quality at Old Trafford. Gerard Piqué had a great game on Wednesday in Barça's win against Manchester United and, in fact, the Catalan central defender was chosen as the man of the match by UEFA. It was deserved recognition for the player, who was returning to the stadium where he began his career as a professional footballer and played from 2004 to 2008.

A protagonist with Barça DNA

Piqué completed 60 passes on the night and was very solid defensively, ensuring that any danger from United was fleeting. He was key in a match that was, in his words, "very difficult against a team and a crowd that always gives everything." 

The goal which won the game began with Piqué. It arrived after 47 passes, 194 seconds and with all 11 players having touched the ball. 

A wonderful season 

Piqué's great game wasn't a coincidence because he's having a fantastic season. In the League, the No.3 had played every minute until the game against Villarreal. It's the only match that Piqué has missed in the competition. In total he has played 30 games (2,700 minutes) and scored seven goals between all competitions, consolidating him as one of the best central defenders in the world this season.
