Leo Messi breaks 40 goal mark for the 10th consecutive season
The years pass by but Leo Messi never tires of continuing to score goals. He did so again in the derby at the Camp Nou against Espanyol with both goals in the 2-0 victory.
It was a performance that ensured he reached the figure of 40 goals this season, a mark that he has achieved for the last ten years consecutively. In the 2009/10 season he managed 47 goals in all competitions (2008/09 saw 38), and since then he has always passed 40. The 73 goals he scored during 2011/12 is a historic record, 50 of those coming in La Liga.
This year, he has 31 goals in the League, 2 in the Cup and 8 in the Champions League, being the top scorer both in domestic and European competition.
With at least 12 games left to finish the football season (9 League games, 2 in the Champions League as a minimum and the Cup final), both Messi himself and everyone connected with Barça hopes he can continue pushing up the numbers.
