FC Barcelona honours its world handball champions
On Sunday January 27, there were no fewer than seven FC Barcelona Intersport players in the Spain team that won the World Handball Championship. After the first game since the achievement to be played at the Palau, Tuesday’s meeting with Palma del Río, the club honoured its latest world champions.
Seven plus two
The seven Barça players that were in action at the Palau Sant Jordi as Spain clinched the trophy on home soil, and for only second time ever, were Albert Rocas, Viran Morros, Arpad Sterbik, Víctor Tomás, Dani Sarmiento, Ángel Montoro and Aitor Ariño, who were all presented with a special memento.
But the club also bestowed the same honour on Raúl Entrerríos, who was injured in the build-up to the tournament and was sadly forced to watch from the sidelines, and also Dr. Josep Antoni Gutiérrez, the FC Barcelona Intersport team doctor who also offers his services to the Spanish national side.
The presentation was made by the director in chief of the handball section, Eduard Coll, and members of the club’s handball commission, Antonio Asensio and Joan Balcells.
