PSG Handball, a world class squad
On Sunday at 17.00 in Paris, PSG Handball and FC Barcelona will be meeting in a clash between two of the hottest tips to win the VELUX EHF Champions League. Here we look in depth at the squad the Parisian side has assembled
Goal
France’s Patrice Annonay and José Manuel Sierra play in goal. Annonay is having an excellent season, with an amazing penalty save rate of 41% in the French league.
Former FCB man José Manuel Sierra is in his second season in Paris and is showing there the ability he already showed the crowds in Barcelona from 1996 to 2000, and also at Valladolid, his club before the move to PSG Handball.
Spectacular first line
Any handball team that can boast such names as Bojinovic, Csaszar, Narcisse, Antonio García, Hansen and Kopljar in its first line is always going to one to admire.
Mladen Bojinovic and Mikel Hansen also have Barça pasts. Bojinovic was here in 01/02 and Hansen from 2008 to 2010. The latter was named world player of the year in 2011.
And the man who succeeded him in 2012 was Daniel Narcisse, the Frenchman who has returned from Kiel to his home country to join the exciting new project at PSG Handball.
Hungary’s Csaszar is one of the PSG playmakers, and playing alongside him is Catalan Antonio García, another of the big names, as well as the ever-resolute Kopljar.
Great centres
Gunnarsson, Gojun and former Barça man Vori are the three options for club manager Philippe Gardent.
Gunnarsson is one of the best Icelandic players of recent years, with plenty of German Bundesliga experience behind him. Croatian Jakov Gojun has arrived from BM Atlético Madrid, and provides some defensive consistency to the team.
And then there is the great Igor Vori, who was at Barça from 2005 to 2007 and then went on to win the European crown with HSV Hamburg, beating FC Barcelona in last season’s final, and afterwards signing for PSG.
