Douglas: Pace down the right wing
Douglas Pereira dos Santos (Monte Alegre de Goiás, 6 August 1990) is the latest of that special breed of Brazilian wing-backs – a defender who also supports the attack with dazzlingly incisive runs down the flank. Never afraid to take on his man whenever called upon, he is frequently seen launching crosses into the area or even having a crack at goal, but is always mindful of his defensive duties.
He started out as a professional with his hometown club of Goiás, making his debut on 20 June 2009 in a draw with Gremio. After three seasons, 75 appearances and five goals, he attracted the interest of one of the biggest clubs in the country, Sao Paulo.
He made his debut for his new club on 11 February 2012, and went on to play there for three seasons, playing 95 matches and scoring four goals. It was at Sao Paulo that he switched from being a traditional to full-back to a player that also supported the attack, and his services were fundamental in the conquest of the Copa Sudamericana in 2012.
He has yet to make his full international debut for Brazil, but was in the side that won the South American U20 Championship in Venezuela in 2009.
