Five years on from Club's third European Super Cup

An extra time goal from Pedro gave Barça the win against Shaktar Donetsk in Monaco on August 28, 2009 The Cup was the fifth of the sixth titles Pep Guardiola's side won that year

Five years ago today, Barça lifted their third European Super Cup, beating Shaktar Donetsk in Monaco with an injury time goal from Pedro. Three months after their Champions League win Rome, Barça claimed yet another title.

In a tight game with few chances, Pep Guardiola’s side dominated against a conservative Shaktar, with the only goal coming five minutes from the end after a one two between Messi and Pedro, saw the Spanish winger fire home a low drive from the edge of the box. Pedro’s goal marked the start of an extraordinary season for him, after figuring only fitfully during the 2009/10 campaign, which saw him become the first player in history to score in six official competitions in one season.

2009 was Barça’s most successful season ever, as the team conquered the Spanish Cup, League and Super Cup, as well as the Champions League, European Super Cup and World Club Cup to carry off an amazing six titles.
