Barça to face Manchester United in the quarter finals
FC Barcelona now know their path to the final on June 1 in Madrid. Ernesto Valverde’s team will face Manchester United in the quarter finals with the first leg to come on Wednesday 10 April at Old Trafford at 9.00pm CET and the return leg on Tuesday 16 April at Camp Nou, also at 9.0pm CET.
If Barça get through the tie against their Premier League opposition then they will face Liverpool or Porto in the semi finals with the first leg on 30 April/1 May and the second leg on 7/8 May.
Previous meetings between Barça and Manchester United
The tie will see the two giants of European football meet for the eighth time. The first ever clash came in the quarter finals of the European Cup Winners’ Cup back in 1984. The English club prevailed on that occasion but on the three occasions that the team have met in the finals of European competition, the blaugranes have come out on top twice. In 2009 Barça claimed the Champions League title by beating Manchester United 2-0 in Rome and two seasons later they repeated the trick winning 3-1 at Wembley.
Of the current squads, two players have represented both clubs: Gerard Piqué spent three seasons at Manchester United between 2004 and 2008 whilst striker Alexis Sánchez spent three seasons with Barça between 2011 and 2014.
