Eight Spanish Cup semi-finals in nine years

In their last seven semi appearances, FC Barcelona have qualified for the final four times and gone on to win the trophy twice

[[DES_1]]FC Barcelona have beaten Atlético Madrid 4-2 on aggregate to reach the semi-finals of the Spanish Cup, continuing their great form in the competition in the last decade. In the last nine years, only Sevilla in 2009/10 have managed to prevent them from reaching the final four. Barcelona’s opponents this time will be either Getafe or Villarreal, with the latter defending their 1-0 lead from the first leg on Thursday night.

Four finals and two titles

Back in 2006/07, the run began with FCB beating Zaragoza on away goals in the quarters (0-1, 2-1). In the last nine years, the Catalans have gone on to reach four finals (2009, 2011, 2012 and 2014) after aggregate semi-final wins against Mallorca (3-1), Almeria (5-0), Valencia (3-1) and Real Sociedad (3-1), respectively. Barça finished the tournament as champions twice (2009 and 2012), beating Athletic Club Bilbao on both occasions: 4-1 at Mestalla and 3-0 at the Vicente Calderón.

Time confirmed

FC Barcelona may not know who they’ll meet in the semis yet, but we already know the kick-off time of the first leg. It will be on February 11 at 8.00pm (CET) in the Camp Nou. The second leg will be on Wednesday 4 March at a time yet to be confirmed.
