Another Clásico with a big difference!
FC Barcelona are going into the second La Liga Clásico with a massive nine points between them and Real Madrid. In fact, it’s the fourth biggest Barça lead EVER going into a trip to the Bernabéu:
2012/13 16 points
1990/91 13 points
2017/18 11 points
2018/19 9 points
Amazingly, two of the four highest margins have come in the last two seasons – although it would also be fair to note that last season Real Madrid had played one game less.
And although the biggest difference of all was recorded in 2012/13, the 13-point lead in 1990/91 is especially impressive considering it came in the era before three points for a win.
Not the biggest of the season
Although nine points separate the clubs now, from weeks 18 to 21, Barça actually had a ten-point lead on their historic rivals. But a new season high of 12 points could be established with a repeat of Wednesday’s Copa del Rey semi-final victory!
