The FC Barcelona away kit for 2016/17 will be purple

For the first time ever FC Barcelona’s famous red and blue home colours have been blended together to produce a unique and bold new purple away kit for the 2016-17 season.  The shirt is now available at Nike.com/fcb. You can also buy the new kit right here.

This continues FC Barcelona’s tradition of playing in vibrant away colours that shock and excite, while also reasserting their classic home colours together in an unprecedented new fashion. The new away shirt with AeroSwift technology is a stunning deep purple with vivid pink details, including a modern v-neck collar with a pink band at the back.

In the words of captain Andrés Iniesta, “the fusion of the traditional red and blue makes this shirt shocking, but at the same time really linked with our history. In addition, thanks to the new technology we feel much more agile and fast.”

On the chest is a unique engineered knitted graphic of angular and geometric shapes, which accentuates this area of the body, and provides players with an armour, and a more powerful appearance. The smaller shapes at the bottom of the graphic are in a mesh structure to provide extra cooling to each side.

The sleeves and the upper back have been infused with black to produce a darker purple to emphasise the power of the shoulders. On the back neck rib of the collar ‘Barça’ is knitted in to the shirt, while knitted inside the cuffs are the evocative words ‘Un Crit’ on the right, and ‘Valent’ on the left, which together translate from Catalan as ‘Our Cry is Bold.’

This is a rousing and emotional line, repeated twice, from the club’s official anthem Cant del Barça, which has been sung by fans before games at the Camp Nou for over four decades. On the back of the neck is a small woven Catalan flag the Senyera, a proud symbol of the region, which dominates the entire cityscape.

FC Barcelona’s unique font for the letters and numbers of the players on the new kit is vivid pink and inspired by the cuts and angles of the chimneys of the sentinels on Antoni Gaudi’s La Pedrera building in the city.

On both sides of the shirt is a vivid pink stripe running from cuff to hem, which when the player begins to move subtly expands to provide greater ventilation and reveal flashes of purple underneath.

The away shorts are purple with vivid pink stripes on each side, which connect with the stripes on the shirt and work in the same manner.

The new away socks are vivid pink with a purple linear graphic on the back of the calf. This colour blocking with the socks a strikingly different and vibrant colour to the shirt and shorts highlights the fastest part of a player’s body, the lower legs, and provides the kit with a final flourish of colour and an overall sense of speed and movement.

This new kit with AeroSwift technology acts as a proud symbol of the club, but it has also been designed to allow players to be fast, and always perform at their absolute best, boasting the latest Nike innovations in performance technology, fabric construction and moisture management.
