One week until the Gamper

There are just seven days to go before Barça play their first game as the home side at Montjuïc, their temporary home while work is being done to develop Spotify Camp Nou. The guests for the 58th edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy are Tottenham Hotspur, who finished eighth in the Premiership last season.

Second Gamper for Tottenham

Tottenham will be appearing at the Olympic Stadium for the first time, but they have played a Gamper before. That was in 1986, although they and Barça never met. In those days the competition was a four-team affair, and the two teams played in separate semi-finals. Barça won theirs, but the North Londoners were beaten by PSV.

Spurs' preseason

The side coached by Ange Postecoglu have been in the Asia Pacific until now. They lost 3-2 to fellow English side West Ham in Perth and then thumped Lion City Sailors of Singapore 5-1, with Brazilian striker Richarlison netting a hat-trick. They were also due to play Leicester City in Bangkok, but the game got suspended due to rain.

Before coming to Barcelona, Tottenham have a friendly at home to Shakhtar Donetsk this Sunday 6 August.
