The official FC Barcelona website has won the People's Voice Award for Websites and Mobile Sites in the Sports category at this year's Webby Awards. FC Barcelona beat the other nominees in the category, namely Inter Milan, ESPN, the 2022 Little League Baseball World Series, and the Santa Anita Park race track in California.
The Club website's commitment to fan-centric content, focusing on gaming and content for a younger audience has consolidated www.fcbarcelona.com as a benchmark in the sector. Both Barça's website and app contain entertainment and information, as well as audiovisual content and written pieces, making the space essential for culers worldwide, whose content is adapted to their geographical location.
In fact, many of the Barça fans that browse the website are already part of the CULER community, which depending on the plan, enables participation in draws and competitions, or provides discounts on tickets or unlimited access to Barça TV+. The Club's website is a multifunctional space that brings together different Club business units, from Ticketing through to BLM, or the Social Area, where FC Barcelona's different partners are found.
Let's not forget that the Club's homepage was revamped a couple of months ago, making browsing easier and offering a much more personal and simpler experience, particularly for those accessing it via their mobile phone.
Barça, the first sports club outside of England to win a Webby
This Webby Award has added the Club to the list of winners of this prestigious award that only included two sports clubs to date, both of which were English football clubs.
Manchester United were the first to win the People's Voice Award as voted for by the general public in 2007, before Arsenal won it in 2018. The list also features the BBC website for the 2012 Olympic Games in London, the ESPN sports news site, or the website for the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix. Barça is the newest addition to the list, taking over from last year's winner, "The Depths She'll Reach", which recounts the story of Alenka Artnik, who became the world's best free diver despite contemplating suicide years before.
Other notable winners
So, FC Barcelona's name has joined other personalities who have won a Webby Award outside of sport in recent years. Names such as Jimmy Fallon, Banksy, Kanye West, Frank Ocean, Kim Kardashian and Coldplay were all winners in the different Webby Award categories handed out each year.
About the Webby Awards
Stated to be “The Internet's Highest Honor” by the New York Times in one of their articles, this latest award adds to Barça's growing collection. Known as the Oscars for websites, the Webby Awards have been the leading international award honouring excellence on the Internet since 1996.
Presented by the IADAS, the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, with a 2000+ member judging body, the Webby Awards have expanded to include different categories for the awards over the years. They also launched the European sister award program, The Lovie Awards, and in 2021, they launched the Anthem Awards, which celebrate work across purposes such as Diversity and Equity & Inclusion.
